As a former mage, the one thing I never wanted to see when I was in playing in a PVP battleground was a warlock stomping my way. Most Mages can pump out more damage than warlocks, but mages have one fatal flaw: We can’t stop the damage over time spells from smacking us while we can’t cast our spells. That, coupled with the scatter spells these Destruction Warlocks have, is the reason I had to either learn how to defeat the warlock or become one. Well, to tell you the truth, I did both.
The Destruction Warlocks take the role of the major dps in the warlock class. Using either the bolts of shadow they can throw or the spell that can burn you alive, they will have you running around trying to find a place to hide so you can regain some health. The fear they strike into you will have you wondering why you even bother trying to take them down. If you want to be able to strike a stone cold fear into someone, this is the quickest way to light them up and burn them out.
Talent Trees: The key to making your character what you want it to be lies within the talent tree. Once you place your talent points in the Destruction talent tree, it will cost some hefty gold to remove those talents and replace them. At first, it’s a slight payment of 20 gold. Then the second time around it will cost you 100 gold. This price will climb each time you change your mind on the topic. In short, make sure you know what you are getting into or you won’t have enough gold to by any of your available talents.
Destruction Tree – This is the tree where you learn to burn your enemies to the ground. It will give you the most spell damage out of any of the other talent trees. The first couple points should be put directly into your Improved Shadow Bolt talent. This will have you blasting away any enemies with greater power off the bat. You can also add some talents into Bane for faster spell casts. As you go down this spell tree, there are some major spells you need to acquire. These spells are Shadow Burn, Devastation, Conflagrate, Shadow Fury, and Chaos Bolt. These spells are a must have for the Destruction Warlock. The most important spell is Chaos Bolt. This spell will unleash major damage quickly and will make sure no enemies are left standing in it’s path.
Demonology Tree – The Demonology Tree is made for warlocks who want their pets to do all the work. When burning enemies alone gets boring, this will help cool your jets. I would add a couple points into this tree for some faster damage and higher critical strikes. With just three talent points, you can increase your stamina by ten percent. That is a must do, so put some points into Demonic Embrace.
Affliction Tree – Curses and Damage over time spells stem from this tree. Destruction Warlocks are fast spell damage casters while this tree will give you the edge with damage over time spells. You can burn your enemies alive or finish them off with a quick bolt of shadow when you use these two trees together. I would recommend placing some talent points into Improved Curse of Agony and Suppression to increase damage and critical strike chance with spells.
Follow these steps and you will have your Destruction Warlock. My specs can be found at THIS link. Have fun and don’t burn your eyebrows off.
