Warsong Gulch is one of the first and best PVP games World of Warcraft created. It is a type of capture the flag game where each team has its own base where the flag is held. The only way to get the opponent’s flag is to venture across the open terrain and into the enemy base. Good luck getting across the battlefield though because I am willing to be that the other team is ready and waiting for you. The flag is in the middle of the entire base. After you hike across the grassy land of enemies and make it to the entrance to the opponent’s base, that’s where the fun begins.
Watch your back or it will get ripped off because this pvp battle ground is made for one on one fighting with open fields and only a small number of hiding places. Get to the opponents tunnel and start racing up into it. No mounts allowed in the tunnel, so this part will be all on foot at a pretty slow pace. Once at the end of the tunnel you will be in the flag room. Congratulations, you made it this far, now good luck getting the flag. Run in as fast as you can and right click on the enemy flag to receive it.
Now, as for getting out of the base with it, that is a little tougher. You can go one of two ways. You can go back through the tunnel where you came from but I am pretty sure there will be some enemies charging back up to catch you coming out. The second way is a game of chance. You can venture out the other door and over the enemies graveyard where, every thirty seconds, they respawn. Time it right and you might get a little bit of a head start over your opponents.
Dart as fast as you can back to your base now. It would be a good idea to have some teammates to tag along as well so they can fend off any attackers. Once back to your base, you can place the enemies’ flag on your flag. That’s right; the only way you can score is if you have both the flags. If your team has lost your flag, it will be time to play the waiting and hiding game. Now, I think you are ready for some of the key factors, hints, and tips for this battle ground.
Tips and Hints:
The flag retriever should either be a rogue, warrior, or priest. The rogue can run much faster than any other class and is very hard to hit. You will find this out the hard way when the person who is running away with your flag is a rogue and he burns past you without receiving a single point of damage. The warrior can take so much damage that it won’t matter if one or two people spot him leaving with their beloved flag, they probably can’t take him down anyway. The last is the priest. If you have ever been or fought against a priest, you will know of their amazing ability to put an orb around them that makes them immune to everything. This is extremely helpful for the run away from the enemy base.
The second tip I have for you is simple; Travel in large groups. If you scatter and try to take this battle ground single handedly, chances are you will be spending most of your day in the graveyard. The perfect group will have a healing, tank, and a couple dps players. The best friend to have on this battle ground is a frost mage. You won’t be running away too fast with the flag when your feet are frozen to the earth. Take three or four of your friends and charge the enemy base with a fierce battle cry. The opponents won’t be able to take care of all of your buddies at the same time. Chances are one of you will get the flag safely out of the base and on its to a date with your flag.
Last tip I have for the Warsong Gulch player is make sure you have a decent defense set up as well. I am not talking about 6 of your players sitting in the base waiting for the enemy to dart in and leave with the flag while they are sitting around baffled as to what happened. I mean three or four of the smartest players on your team guarding the key entrance points and shouting out any incoming attacks to the rest of the group. This will come in handy when you are trying to figure out where your flag is floating around.
Warsong Gulch is one of the most fun and rewarding battle grounds. It happens to be my favorite and I hope you have a great time playing and winning this battle ground. For more information on Warsong Gulch, you can visit www.worldofwarcraft.com.
